Using accessibility features on EFTPOS Now terminals

Our EFTPOS Now terminals have built-in accessibility features, making them more accessible for cardholders to use independently. Cardholders can choose to activate assistance mode, which offers large font size and colour contrast options, or accessibility mode, which offers audio instructions, tactile markers and a blank screen for secure PIN entry.

Here are some tips:

  • You can use the terminal with your own headphones, by connecting them to the 3.5mm headphone jack on the left-side of the terminal screen.
  • Training mode provides an end-to-end simulated audio guide of our accessibility mode.
  • You can add a digital card to your mobile or wearable digital wallet to eliminate the need to carry a physical card or enter a PIN to make payments.

How to Enable Accessibility Features

Once the cashier enters the payment amount, you can activate accessibility mode instantly by double-tapping anywhere on the screen or pressing the physical power button on the left-side of the terminal screen. Alternatively, you can select assistance mode, accessibility mode or training mode from the yellow navigator icon on the terminal screen.

Accessibility Mode

  • If you use the yellow navigator icon to start accessibility mode, the terminal will prompt you to choose how you want to use accessibility mode, either by double-tapping the screen or pressing the power button on the left-side of the terminal screen.
  • Once selected, the audio will announce the total amount payable. You can adjust the audio volume by pressing the volume buttons on the left-side of the terminal screen.
  • The terminal will prompt you to tap, insert or swipe your card or payment-enabled device.
  • You may be prompted to select your account. Swipe left or right to locate your account and confirm, either by double-tapping the screen or pressing the power button on the left-side of the terminal screen.
  • You may be prompted to accept a surcharge. Swipe left or right to accept and confirm, either by double-tapping the screen or pressing the power button on the left-side of the terminal screen.
  • You may be prompted for a PIN. You'll be asked to enter your PIN by moving your finger along the terminal screen, using the tactile markers and beeps for orientation and support.
  • Double-tap the digit or press the power button on the left-side of the terminal screen to confirm each digit. If you make an error locating a digit, lift your finger before confirming it, try again and confirm when you are ready.
  • After confirming each digit, the terminal will announce where you are up to in the sequence of your PIN entry. For example, first digit entered, second digit entered, etc. Note: Your PIN will not be announced nor visible on the screen.
  • Once you've entered your PIN correctly, navigate to the OK button (bottom right of the screen) which will be announced, and double tap the screen or press the power button on the left-hand side of the terminal screen to confirm.
  • If applicable, remove your card when prompted.
  • The transaction outcome will be confirmed and allow you to choose a printed or emailed receipt.

Assistance Mode

  • The terminal will prompt you to choose your contrast colour.
  • Continue the transaction; the screen adapts to your chosen colour.
  • Adjust the audio volume as needed by pressing the volume buttons on the left-side of the terminal screen.
  • Follow instructions to present your card or payment-enabled device; select your account, accept a surcharge, and complete PIN entry.
  • If applicable, remove your card when prompted.
  • The transaction outcome will be confirmed and allow you to choose a printed or emailed receipt.

Training Mode

  • The terminal will provide audio instructions to demonstrate what will happen while you enter a PIN.
  • The terminal will allow you to practice entering a PIN. Don’t use your own PIN while in training mode.
  • During training mode, the terminal will show the entire PIN entry keypad and will announce the digits as you move your finger over the screen. It will also announce the digits as you confirm them.
  • Exit training mode anytime by navigating to the cancel (bottom left of screen) or OK button (bottom right of screen).
